I had to pick up my wife from Bradley Airport, so I left home a little bit early and threw a jig from the shore at the east pier of the Dexter Coffin Bridge (aka the Route 91 bridge) from 12:15 pm to 1:00 pm. Although the water is muddy, high and flowing fast, I could tell that it's way down from where it crested. Silty mud was deposited almost to the level of South Water Street, which runs alongside the river. I love the feeling of a heavy jig bouncing over the rocky bottom as the current drags it downriver. Surprisingly, I didn't get any unrecoverable snags and pulled up very little debris from the bottom. I caught only one stickfish! Wink Most of the paint got chipped off of my jig and I didn't get a bite. Where have all the smallies gone?!?! Although there's no way that I'd put an unpowered boat into the river right now, you could definitely fish it with a motorboat.

I'll have to check out the river again. I swear when I went out a couple weeks ago I seriously felt like I was in the Amazon with the murky water and huge logs floating everywhere lol. The worst part about it was that near Ferry Point boat launch the "no wake" buoys were literally over a 100 yards from where they should have been.

I definitely am taking my boat soon down the river though!

I usually fish either side of the the Dexter coffin bridge. Caught a nice small mouth last year right near the first piling closest to the canal entrance, that's when the water was low. Haven't been to that side (WL side) this year yet. Been under the bridge on the EW side a couple of times, I only throw my 12lb test and spoon or spinner bait there, the floor of river in that area is pretty much silt. I usually stand across the piling on the right and cast all 3 pilings. I've only caught one LMB there last year, no luck this year, river is either to high or to low!!!!
