At 4:25 pm, I noticed that I got a PM from CT_BASSman (aka Joe) that he would be on the Farmington River by Tunxis Mead at 4:15 pm, so I put the crossbars and J-rack back onto my Saab, strapped El Habañero onto the rack and headed down there. After eating blue crab all day, I was in the mood for a little more subsistence fishing. Look out white perch! I got on the water at 5:15 pm and texted Joe to paddle downriver to where I was. He had launched upriver from Wannowmassa Lane. I launched from Tunxis Mead Park. Before Joe reached me, I boated a couple of rock bass on a silver Rapala Shallow Shad Rap SSR7. We paddled into the cove that holds a lot of white perch:

I trolled the SSR7 and quickly boated a 12 inch black crappie:

Coincidentally, I got it in the same area where DirtyDawg10 (aka Derek) got two and lost one the last time that we were there. There's something about that spot that holds crappie, because I lost one and got another one in the same spot later. The bite slowed for me after the first four fish, so I switched from the SSR7 to a Rapala Original Floater F07 that has more action to it. It made a huge difference, although I had to change the rear treble to a larger one after I lost five fish in a row, including a small largemouth bass and a 14 inch crappie! I really hate treble hooks, especially the little wire ones! Mad I ended up boating five different species of fish: rock bass (2), crappie (3), white perch (6), a bluegill (1) and largemouth (4). Since I was fishing for food, I didn't bother taking photos of all of them, but here are a few:

Joe had to take off and I followed him out of the cove. I got off the water by 7:15 pm, but took three crappie and two white perch with me. Not bad for two hours of fishing!

Oh, I gotta run! Fishface (aka Tim) is heading out onto Batterson Park Pond. Later!

Did you guys happen to see any spots downriver where I might be able to discreetly launch my fiberglass tub?

You'd need a cart to wheel Dinghbat in to where I've launched. At Tunxis Mead Park, I had to carry El Habañero about 150 yards to the river.

Had a good day on the water and thanks to Phil for showing me this spot, ill try and get a picture up of the best bass of the day for me anyway which came on a strike king KVD square bill crankbait in sexy shad color of course. Ended the day with 5 LMB all coming on the crankbait except one on a black/blue flake senko and a short black crappie on a live minnow. Was really surprised at how slow the action was on live bait, im usually not one to fish with it but I felt like a change for a day.
