Lookinin to fish the upper CT for the first time this year. Planning on launching on the Farmington at the Hot Dog shop. Any suggestions on what to look out for on the Farmington before getting to the mouth? Is there a good channel? Running a 17 ft alum with a 20 hp.

Hey, swany, where's the Hot Dog shop? Is it on the west bank of the Connecticut, just south of the mouth of the Farmington? I always launch from the boat launch ramp in Linear Park, which is on the east bank of the Connecticut at the end of Vibert Road in South Windsor. It's directly across the river from the mouth of the Farmington.

right now the the CT is FAST and MUDDY with LOTS of debris... hopefully it will clear up in a couple/3 weeks

I think he is talking about Barts. While I have heard of people launching boats of your size from there - I would not do it. I know the water is high right now, but you can usually walk across the Farmington in that area. Also, where the Farmy meets the CT is very shallow and trecherous.

Yea Barts is the place. Used to go there for lunch when I worked up there for a while.Sounds like I'd be better off launching on the east side per PECos reccomendation. Have plenty of experience fishing the mouth of the river in Saybrook but never tried the upper river. I do realize and watch the river hight. Hit more than one good size branch running at night for stripers. I run a 17 ft starcraft with bench seats and 20hp tiller. I think the Ct river is a beautiful resource with so many options depending on season. Thought launching in the Farmington would just be another option. Thanks fellas

When Massachusetts shuts off the water and the level in the Connecticut drops, you could wade across it. It IS a beautiful place to be, though.

You could easily launch your boat from the boat launch ramp at the end of Vibert Road and work your way up into the Farmington. I've never seen one, but I hear that there are decent northern pike in there. I know that you'll find decent smallies and maybe even some striped bass.

vibrant road is a great launch as it is well protected from the current, it has its own small little cove. Also, that ramp is usually good to go when others are not because of floods. The launch is steep and deep so your boat will come right off.

Ct. Outfitters had a great map of the river north of Hartford. Really worth getting one if they still have some especially if you don't know the area.

Be careful its running fast and high out there...lots of current. Wear that PFD ..dont become a statistic.
