Hey there, I moved out here from upstate NY about 2 years ago. Have done a good bit of freshwater fishing but saltwater is all relatively new since I moved here. A buddy and I fished the sound last summer with minimal success. I cant stand to do the whole "combat fishing" I would rather just not go. Tried some surf casting from the beach at night last year to avoid the crowds. I have a little 2 man marsh boat to duck hunt from and will be using it to fish some of the local ponds/lakes. I live in Meriden, probably headed to Black Pond on Sat. (YES, I read the thread warning of the mass chaos on opening day over there). If it gets to crazy I'll pack up and head home. If anyone sees a guy fishing from a duck boat you'll know who it is, LOL. I have been lurking here for a bit, figured I would say hi. Would love to meet up with someone that has some more experience fishing for stripers and blues (they shouldnt be far off now!). |

Yeah...good luck with Black Pond...get there early or later in the day after the trout fools catch their limit. I was the idiot who got there at 5 a.m. and ended up parking at the top of the hill (and being the last to leave at 4 p.m.) Even though it's one of my favorite "local" ponds, I'm not sure I'd go there alone again on opening day. Welcome, by the way...I'm sure you'll find plenty of members interested in striper fishing with you. And I can be convinced to go to Black Pond pretty easily. _________________ Kira

Thanks, I'm hoping that the majority of the traffic stays on shore so I can have a little space from the boat... keep in touch if you ever wanna hit black pond I live right down the road. Could ride my bike over although the boat doesnt tow well behind it |

Don't count on it. Last year I'd estimate 60-80 boats on the left side (it was raining on and off all night) and most of the shore spots were held from the night before. Great place for a small boat...especially once the pads fill in a bit. _________________ Kira
