See Kira -> you can catch Big Fish on 4 lb.test and spikes (maggots)
Ice fishing is totally "Vertical fishing" and requires thinner lines and more finesse presentation.
Plus the fish are slowing down due to the cold and lower O2 levels.
The fish aren't about to expend energy to go after and attack lures like during open water
