I headed over to Silver Lake with my Hobie for the first time today, in part because I thought that TurtleKiss (aka Kira) might be there. Unfortunately, Kira decided to sleep in today. I got on the water from the boat launch ramp at 8:15 am. I had been talking with a guy who arrived at the ramp just after I and must have thrown off of his routine, because when he launched his little blue aluminum boat, he forgot to tie it off! Embarassed Yes, I retrieved it for him.

Thankfully, the sun was already rising over Lamentation Mountain to the west of the lake because it was cold out there. It was cold enough that there was still mist on the water. The air temperature was probably in the low 40s and the water temperature was around 57 degrees. I pedaled across to the peninusula on the east shore and began throwing a wacky five inch green pumpkin/red flake Senko. As I worked my way south down the shore, I landed a little 11 inch largemouth bass. And ten minutes later, I landed a little 12 incher:

I hurried around the peninsula to get to the sunny side of it. As the morning wore on, a steady north wind began to blow at about 10 miles per hour and I got pretty cold. I threw a little white crankbait and big black spinnerbait, but got no hits. Even the wacky Senko stopped working. So I decided to head across the lake to the west shore to get into the sun and out of the wind as much as possible. When I got to the shore, I threw the crankbait at a big concrete block that was sitting in the water and caught another little 11 incher on the first cast.

After that, I decided to work my way north up the west shore and back to the ramp. I figured that I'd head over to Keeney Cove, in case DirtyDawg10 (aka Derek) were able to fish there for a little bit at lunchtime. I didn't get any more hits and was off the water by 10:45 am. I now understand all of the reports about Silver Lake in which people say that they catch a lot of largemouth bass, but nothing of any size. But at least I caught something. The guy in the little blue aluminum boat still had the skunk aboard his boat when I left. Cool
