I know that feeling. I did something simliar to that reported in one of my earlier post but rather that using wire cutters I used an Xacto knife only because I wanted to continue using that particular bait as I had no more of that color .

Jim, I always keep a set split ring pliers in my plano box of cranks or topwater baits with extra trebbles and split rings just in case of an on -the -water human or plug/crank repair. I've clipped rocks with crankbaits before and lost 1 hook out of 3 on a trebble many times, and it just takes 2 minutes to slide on a new one.

Knock on wood, never been hooked bad before in all my years of fishing. I'm sure I'm due, but so far nothing serious.

Gary, yeah I keep those things in my big tackle boxes but I was going light in my Tracker Bantam fishing a private pond in Glastonbury. That was the day I caught 110 bass on that one lure and I didn't want to lose it. Finally lost it on the 111th strike!
