I decided to head out to a local pond that I discovered had some nice fish in it. Since this is my first season fishing for bass and I fish from shore it seemed like a good place to start because it's small. I started fishing about 7:00am and left around 10:00am. On my first cast I threw a Rebel popper (ole bass) and hooked up with a small bass (10") and managed to land the first LMB I ever caught.
This just so happens to be the same lure I caught my first SMB on a few weeks ago. I may have to retire this lure and have it framed
I hooked up with another bass a few minutes later but he threw the hook before I could get him on shore. I decided to try throwing a wacky rigged pumpkin senko and was glad I did because I hooked up with this nice 16" 2lb+/- LMB
I checked out a couple of other spots on the pond and caught this 14"+ LMB and tried to get myself in one of the pics (as you can see I need more practice at that or a fishing partner). This one was on the same pumpkin senko.
Just before I left I caught another little one around 10" or so. Again on the pumpkin senko.
All in all it was a great day. I wasn't expecting to catch this many fish in that little pond. |

Nice fish. Largemouth bass are fun to catch. Wacky Senkos work great on still water. No dramatic hooksets, but fewer missed fish. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Looks like a pretty awesome outing for you first time LMB fishing, small ponds are always a good place to start. |

I should clarify that it wasn't my first time LMB fishing. I have been out a couple of other times so far this season. This was just the first time I didn't get skunked. I already know why fishing is addictive but now I know why LMB fishing is addictive. Those suckers were fun to catch.
To make the senkos a bit more exciting I was using a 5ft light action rod and 6lb test. It was fun bringing 'em in on that setup. I may have to step it up a few notches though in case I catch a lunker. |

Your gonna test your nerves with 6lb test, wait till a 2lber wraps itself in the grass and breaks off leaving you thinking that you might have just lost monster. I lost a fish at spring lake this year that could have easily been a 4-5 and I still think about it when I'm out, and it just threw the hook.
But good job on the no skunk then, I always much prefer catching as opposed to "fishing". Bass fishing is addicting, sometimes a 3lber will fight like a sunny and sometimes a short will fight like a monster. I wish I never stumbled upon this sport, I no longer have free time. Joking of course, fishing is fun |

Yeah I know the 6lb is pushing it. I have a baitcaster with 50lb braid that I had a frog on and my other spinning reel with 14lb line had the popper on it. So instead of re-tying I decided to grab the light setup and luckily nothing broke me off that day. |

No worries mate, it's always fun on light tackle. In fact I have a setup with 6lb test but it is a super stretchy line that takes a lot brunt impact force to snap, always best for open water though. I have this thing that I always think that the fish that manages to wrap around a stump or grass and breaks off would without me making eye contact could have been my new p/b, you never know! |
