For some reason i have a hard time getting the spring bite, In summer and fall i do fairly well.

I almost never catch fish in the spring time, is there a presentation that the fish like better?

I usually fish soft plastic, typically texas rigged. Any advise would be Great!

Try a drop shot rig, a chatterbait, a jerkbait, a rattletrap, or throwing a jig.

I have been out several times so far this year and I haven't had to much luck on soft plastics. I have caught fish on the jig, lipless crankbait, and more recently, a spinner bait. I usually have better luck with soft plastics in late spring, summer, and fall. Hope this helps. Very Happy

Steven,

I had the same issue, the best thing to do is go SLOW. Slower presentation will do the trick.

Fish at 8 p.m. using torpedoes. I can't help you with the daytime...I'm still trying to figure that out myself. Can't even find baitfish yet.

Softbaits have done wonders for me this year in the spring. Ive caught more than i pulled through the ice using senkos the new ones with tails. Slow twitchy aggravatingly slow lmao. But for spring killed it... And when im not out trout or striper I do still kayaking looking at those spawning beds.

I have heard that a jig and trailer work good in the spring, but i am not sure how a drop shot works, or if it works from shore.

What areas you fishing in? I am mostly after smallmouth in the spring in the farmington/CT river. I have the best luck on wacky rigged stick baits and smaller jigs with a trailer.

When I do fish for LM I tend to stick to husky jerks and similar working them slooooow / twitch / pause. Sometimes using the split floating rapalas and working them the same way. But I tend to fish alot at low light times using skitterpops, torpedos, and chug bugs. Just stick to the dark colors and work em slow.

Would you like a personal demonstration of how I only catch tiny fish there?

Turtlekiss: I was actually thinking about going to Batterson this weekend. I am not sure what to believe about that place.

DV: I usuall yfish all over the place, I have tried the CT river, Farmington River, Rainbow Res. I think i just stink when it comes to river fishing.

Catching anything using stickbait and jerkbaits it seems is almost impossible for me right now.
