fished from 3-6. Only caught 2 28" stripers on green eel swim baits. I had to switch after the blues ate all 5 baits:( Then caught about 20 blues between 2-5lbs, maybe a couple of 6lbers in the mix. I was using my trusty 1oz sinking silver popper. My partner caught blues on poppers, cast masters, a home made spook.

As far as size is concerned, the fish were definitely small but I was using a med action bass rod so it was fun as hell. Fish were every where, they were jumping all around us. It appeared they were feeding on peanut bunker as every fish landed was spitting them up all over the deck. It could have been another type of bait, I am no expert but they did look like really tiny bunker so that is my guess.

We only had 2 spinning rods so we where just casting. I saw a couple of guys live lining hickory shad on conventional setups and they were catching 40"+ stripers deep.

It was just the trip I needed.

Can't wait for the fall Montauk blitz, it will be here before we know it. Very Happy

Nice report Justin, for a real thrill on those small stripers and blues you should try a 5 wt. flyrod. 6" of wire for the blues !! Cool Cool

There was guys fishing with flies, they where killing it. They always seem to catch even when others are not,. I would love to give it a try eventually.
