Decided to stop off at a few spots on my way home from work today. Started out at pratt cove on an outgoing tide. The water was moving really fast under the bridge creating a perfect eddy on the other side. I was hoping it would be more productive than it turned out to be. But after throwing a spinner bait in there for a while, I finally hooked up with about a 1lb largemouth. This spot seemed kind of lame so I moved on.
I decided I'd check out the Deep River town landing. This is usually one of my least favorite spots on an outgoing tide, but today, I think it's going to be one of my new favorites. Third cast off the point, I pull up a small perch, nothing special. The next cast, I cast towards the end of the point, and let the current take it around. I reeled in very slowly allowing the current to push my spinner bait into the rocks. Next thing I know, I'm hooked up! I fight it for a while, pull it up, and there we go a nice 2lb smallie. A real football! As I'm taking the hook out, I notice something in his mouth. I took out my pliers, and pulled it out, it was a small perch, maybe 3 or 4 inches long. Does this count as 2 fish on one cast??? Ayways, I thought maybe I'd try to tie on a perch colored X-Rap. I get nothing on the X-rap where I was, so I moved to the other side of the point where a nice eddy had formed. I cast into it, get nothing, as I'm about to pull my lure out of the water, I stop and let it sit, next thing I know, a monster crappie came up and attacked! By far the biggest crappie I've ever caught. Weighing in at 1.11lbs! I couln't believe it. I ended up getting another smallie (not a keeper), and another small perch.
Wish I owned a camera so I could've taken some pictures...
Not great numbers, but a couple quality fish are good enough for me! _________________ Yankees Suck!

Way to fish that point J. Lets hit that up this weekend. Jigs and S-er-Bees.
That must have been the crappie dad had on last Saturday. You should tell him you caught it. |
