Slimecoat and I went to the river on Friday, around 2pm. It was COLD (27deg) and WINDY (20kts). Headed to the "secret spot," not far from the launch...
Upon arriving to the spot, there was another boat fishing the area. They were using shiners, and we did not observe them catch a thing... After we stayed our distance, using Slimecoat's crappie trolling motor that had to be manually turned for direction (try doing that in the wind and current), the other boat left. We moved into position, and after 5 minutes or so, this beauty ~3lb smallie was taken by Pointingdog. Nice fight! Slimecoat soon switched baits to what Pointingdog was using, and hooked up with another nice smallie, but his limp wristed action prevailed, and the fish came off at the boat...
Stayed for about 2 hours....Great to have this as possibly the last fish of the season...!! Awesome to get out one more time with my buddy!!! Thanks for the great day buddy!!!

Thanks guys, we had a great time, even though it was cold as hell. It is always nice to pull up on a spot that has been hammered by 3 anglers with live shiners, and catch fish with artificials, it doesn't get any better than that.
What pointing dog failed to mention, is that he was using my baits and my equiptment. He also failed to mention that I lost another small fish before the good fish I had on, and I was bitten off on the hookset by a pike. The fish were just picking the bait up and slowly swimming off with it, you almost didn't feel them with the outflow current.
I think the problem with my trolling motor is in my foot control switch, good thing I have 2 brand new ones in the garage.
The flask happened later at our annual club meeting, we picked lakes, drank, and played pool until after 1pm, what a great day.

No never fished blades on the river, only deeper lakes, but I'm willing to try anything if it catches fish.
