With two new Jitterbugs in hand, one jointed, one regular, I returned to Halls on Wednesday night. Got on the water around 5:45PM and it was glass calm. Lots of bug and small fish activity at the surface.

Tried a Pop-R and a jig early with one very small pickerel to show for it. Tied on the jointed jitterbug and a black spinnerbait right around sunset. Took a little while but scored a 2-12 LMB on the jitterbug. Picked up a dink shortly after that and went without a fish for awhile.

At some point, I checked on my jointed jitterbug and noticed it was missing it's jointed half... Confused I don't know if it cast off or what, but it was definitely on when I removed the last fish.

I made the decision to tie on the regular jitterbug and was rewarded on my next cast with my second largest bass (this season and ever). It weighed in at 3lbs 15oz. Fun stuff on top water!

And to continue my jitterbug woes, it bent the hooks... has anyone done snap rings and better hooks on these lures? Is there an effective, more robust, alternative to the jitterbug?

Glad you got some fish, I put up my experience getting my reel worked on in the rods and reels section

I did see that - glad to hear it was quick. Mine will definitely go in after the weather gets cold.

Hope school is going well so far.

I take the hook hangers off the bait, toss the factory hooks, then at split rings to some same sized Gamakatsu trebbles, and reattach the hook hangers so the split rings dangle. This gives the hooks (not much sharper) a lot better range of motion for fighting fish.
