I ran over to Beseck lake yesterday afternoon after work, to run my outboard with the new lower unit and prop. She ran ok at idle, but would only hit 8 mph. I need to clean the carbs due to sitting for 2+ years.

So after running the outboard a little, and scouting the lake, I finally wet a line. Water temps at the south end of the lake were 58 to 59 and a slight wind out of the south. So I looked around the shallows and found no bass looking for love, only sun fish and perch. Water is still to cold for love making. I worked my way down the opposite side from the launch fishing in 5 to 9 foot of water. No takers on anything, jigs, tubes, drop shot, jerkbait, crankbait, rattletrap.

Finally found some life in the NW corner, throwing a tube in 9 foot of water I got the chomp chomp, I swung and missed, and started to reel in to make another cast, and felt a tug again, I notice an18 inch pickeral chases my tube back to the boat. About 5 minutes later, I finally get a mushy feeling while dragging my tube on the bottom, and catch my fist bass of the season, a 1.25lb largemouth. Got him in about 6-8 ft of water, in the NW corner weedbed. Then another big slime dart chases my jig back to the boat, from about 5 feet of water. Of course now that I've found some life, I have run short on time, and have to head back to load up the boat for home.

Nice 2 hours on the lake with only 3 other boats out, I didn't have to touch any smelly damn slime darts, and got the skunk out of the boat. Life is good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not too bad, about 45 minutes. I'll drive 45 minutes to fish anywhere, it's the 1.5 hour trips that kill me. Like Beach pond, East Twin, or Quabbin Res.

I still love the quick hitters like Middle or Lower Bolton, Coventry, or the river.

good luck at mash. I haven't been there in about 11 years but I remember it being a good fishery. Do they have a launching fee?

The park (Bigelow Hollow State Park) has a fee ($7 for residents/$10 non-res), but it's "seasonal". I think that means Memorial Day to Labor Day, so they're probably not charging yet.

I need to head up that way soon as well. I haven't had great luck fishing there (or anywhere, for that matter) but it's a great place to spend a day.

No launching fee yet, and I haven't been there in about 8 years either. It should be fun.

I've been fishing Beseck for 15 years, and in the past we've had multiple 4 to 6 lbers. weighed in on digital scales after tournaments. Make no mistake about it, there are some big fish in Beseck. Too much boat traffic for a small lake in the summer though. In summer, I get there early and fish until 11am, that's when they lift the 8mph limit, and all the jet skis come out.
