Dan1 (aka Dan) has been traveling a lot for work, lately, so we headed up to Winchester Lake for some fun fishing. The rules were:
1) We can’t leave until each of us has caught at least one bass; and
2) Rockies count as minus-one bass.
The weather forecast looked pretty good; sunny and cool with winds from the north up to nine miles per hour. However, when we got to the ramp at 8:00 am, we saw that the wind was blowing a steady 10+ miles per hour.
I decided to throw a Savage Gear 3D Craw on a Ned rig jighead, in a vain attempt to avoid the rockies. It didn’t work:
Although I started out the day with minus-one bass, I soon got back to even:
Meanwhile, Dan stayed even:
I got into plus territory with a short bass that bit a weightless wacky-rigged Senko dropped next to a stump, but it quickly got negated by another rocky:
After 11:00 am, we started talking about cooking lunch. I planned to show Dan how to prepare magret de canard at my house, so we each needed to catch a bass. Dan got his first:
I got mine soon after, but didn’t get a photo because we rushed off the water by noon. And the duck turned out perfectly:
