So after a few weeks ago when "monster" week was on TV and river monsters was on every day my 10 yr old son has wanted to be like Jeremy wade and catch catfish. We fished a bunch of spots along the river today with no such luck. We only have shore access at the current moment and I was wondering if someone could PM me some areas to try around our area that we can fish from shore. Any help would be greatly appreciated, when it comes to trout and bass I know my stuff but cat fishing is new to me and my son so we are on quite a learning curve.
thanks |

Catfish have a bad sense of sight but excellent sense of smell, which would mean rotten shrimp, pieces of sausage, chunks of rotten bluegills, chunks of snapper blues, etc |

I've heard that channel cats sometimes school in the flats of
Salmon River Cove, but I'm not sure at what time of year. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Head over to Hurd State Park and walk down to the river. Follow the rivers edge South till you get to the block wall. Great cat fishing in that stretch of river. I prefer chunk bait and a 4 ouncer on a Slip Sinker Rig. Only 10 mins from East Haddam and a 5-10 minute walk down from the car. _________________ Join the yak pack! – www.connecticutkayakanglers.com / http://connecticutkayakanglers.bigcartel.com |

You're in a good area. Just as AVec80X said. Salmon River launch, casting down towards the red channel marker, or across the river above the boat tour dock below the bridge. I chunk bunker or eel on a fish finder rig. My son loves catfishing.
You won't find any blue cats up here! _________________ RNA - It's in my blood.

If you google CT Catfish stocking there are tons of local ponds they stocked with Catfish, chances are more fun and more action for a kid. Also I used Gulp Dough bait and chicken livers the dough bait last longer and not as messy
Good Luck |
