Hit the honey hole with my 7'6" setup Saturday afternoon. Black Rock low tide was scheduled for 4:46pm and arrived around 4:30pm. I had a feeling it was gonna be a productive day due to all the cloud cover, light winds, and cool air temps.
Lures I played with included shad SP-9, glass ghost XRW-9, and pearl grey shiner FLR-10.
I never got any swirls or explosions on the topwaters. Landed 2 sea robins and 1 snarbor with the FLR-10.
While wading I was seeing a very thick school of bunker out in front of me that eventually came in and then circled back out. I didn't have anything with me for snagging. Didn't see or smell any signs of those bunker being chased though.
Later once the tide had gotten higher I headed over to the ramp. There were at least 5 schools of thick bunker visible with 1 of them getting hit. That one was farther out. 2 chummers were there throwing mackerel and bunker but saw them only get 1 hit which seemed to be a sea robin. I never got into anything and saw a usual try to snag bunker but wasn't having much luck. The 2 chummers told me earlier they got a nice hit and set the hook on what seemed to be a big striper that bent the leader.
Last stop was Breezy Point which is where I had 1 small explosion on the XRW-9.
Hit the road just before 8pm |
