Monday I hit the late afternoon incoming into the evening outgoing at Seaside. High for Black Rock was 6:04pm. Was only able to fish by the beach, ramp, and Fayerweather due to the park reopening after Gathering of the Vibes and crews still cleaning the area where it took place.
Right as I walk out on the Fayerweather jetty I see schools of bait splashing and tails hitting the water. As the tide kept coming in the schools would disappear before showing back up again. 2 usuals and I casted into numerous schools but never got a hit or explosion.
Later right near high tide I walked out to Fayerweather Island seeing there were 2 boaters drifting and casting. Found out snappers, snarbors, and smaller schoolies were being active. Trick was to use a smaller plug and doing a fast aggressive retrieve. Landed an 18" schoolie and 2 dinky snappers while constantly jerking a BXM-10 at a fast pace. Also landed 2 dinky snappers on an XRW-9.
Once the insects became active I went to check out the ramp. Bunker was splashing in the channel while snappers were stirring up areas near shore like crazy with peanut bunker. Didn't have my jighead to snag a bunker and couldn't get an explosion or hit.
Last stop before the park closed was the rocks by the destroyed fishing pier. Had an explosion while pencil popping with an XRW-9.
Hit the road around 8:30pm |
