|
|
Picked up a couple striper float rigs. It's a wire leader with a hook, sliding float and a sinker clip. Im assuming the sinker holds the rig at the bottom while the float suspends the bait. Anyone ever try something similiar and have luck? |

I have used them before. Never caught a striper on one, bluefish love them. |

Bass can be picky with wire. Better off with a fishfinder rig w/ 50lb mono or floro |

Ive used 45# black wire leader and caught a good # of stripers. Switched over from heavy mono when i lost a pair of big bluefish. |

I've used a 1oz wooden casting egg, two feet in front of a 1/2 oz bucktail (with a pork rind trailer..). Caught stripers with it over shallow flats on the river,..at times it was actually pretty effective! The weight of the egg allows you to cast a lot further and then on the retrieve it allows you to go pretty slow and not get hung up on the bottom when fishing in areas that are about 2-6ft deep.
Apparently that sort of rig originated and is used by some pretty successful surfcasters in RI. I bought the egg online from a RI baitshop called Salty's,..but i think they are not the only one's that have them! (google: wooden casting egg) _________________ "If people concentrated more on the really important things in life there'd be a shortage of fishing poles."

Didn't have much luck with them. Caught a 3lb blue off the float rig with no other bites before or after, and a couple small 16-18" stripers on a bottom rig. Going to make my own up with some mono and more line so I can suspend my bait higher in the water column. |
