Arrived at the city boat ramp around 11:30am Saturday with my 7'6" setup. Had the reel spooled with brand new 10 lb Fireline. Conditions weren't favorable for fishing the boat ramp. Winds were a steady 10 to 20 mph northwest with occasional gusts up to 30 mph. High tide for Bridgeport was 12:59pm.
Didn't stay at the boat ramp for more than a half hour but did land a 15" schoolie with a FLR-10.
Next I head out on the Fayerweather jetty and tried both sides but nada. Also tried casting into Black Rock Harbor from the island but nada.
When I get back to the parking area I ran into a surfcaster I know from Seaside. He told me he was keeping an eye on the waters around the beach and saw some suspicious activity. He and I casted our poppers out there. He was getting a few extra yards farther than me. I got 1 explosion and he got 2 and landed a snarbor.
Once tide started turning the bite shut down so I eventually went over to the cannon which is when I got into some fun.
Was casting with the SSP-9 while a fellow Seaside surfcaster was throwing a heavier wooden popper. He was working it faster and more aggressively than the way I was working the SSP-9. He got 2 swirls and 1 explosion. Once he switched over to a bone colored Bomber topwater he was into the tailors. I switched over to a chartreuse ghost XRW-9 and played pencil popper with it which resulted in 3 explosions and landing a 3 pound tailor. Then all of a sudden the bite shut down.
I did some wandering to see what was going on but never got into anything else even at Remington. |
