NWS was originally calling for showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. But when I checked the latest forecast Wednesday afternoon I saw they had changed it to after 7pm. Got to the ramp around 2:15pm and conditions were very nice and good for a striper bite. Winds were a light 5 to 10 mph south and southeast while clouds kept moving in.

As tide was coming in, I only got 1 swirl on the SP-9 and XRW-11. Saw a few splashes as tide got higher. Got into a school with the FLR-10 but had many hits but no hook sets. Eventually landed a 14"er.

Once tide had gotten close to peek high and it got sunny again, the bite died.

Headed over to Fayerweather jetty and Island and tried casting in many areas. Got a swirl on the SP-9 out on the island facing into Black Rock Harbor. Weeds have gotten thick along the edge of the jetty facing the beach and open. Terns were still working the tiny bait by the jetty but only saw a few sea robins swirl on the surface.

Next stop was Breezy Point right as tide was turning. Never got any hits, swirls, explosions, or followers.

Went back over to the ramp seeing tide was getting lower but winds had picked up making things a bit choppy. Light rain had started moving in too. Nada.

Last stop was back over to the cannon. Sea robins were active on the surface like they had been recently. Had 1 striper come up to the SP-9 on the pause but didn't set the hook. It was like a hard tap or pop on the surface instead of a nice explosion.

This is starting to remind me of a month or so ago when the fishing was good at Short Beach before we had those 2 days with northerly winds that slowed down the bite.
