High tide for Black Rock Harbor was scheduled for 5:02pm Friday and got to the Fayerweather jetty around 2:15pm. Winds were a gusty 10 to 20 mph ranging from the north to the east. Skies were mostly cloudy and air temps were cool with high humidity.
Lures I played with included pearl grey shiner Flat Rap FLR-10, tennessee olive shad Clackin Minnow CNM-9, blue sardine Saltwater X-Rap SXR-10, purpledescent Shallow Shad Rap SSR-9, blue back herring Long Cast Minnow LC-12, flake purple ghost Max Rap MXR-15, silver blue Skitter Pop SP-9, purple ghost X-Rap Walk XRW-9, and mullet Saltwater Rattlin Rapala SRNR-8.
While the tide was still coming in I had 2 schoolies follow the FLR-10 and caught 4 sea robins all on the SRNR-8.
Couldn't do any fishing out on Fayerweather Island due to the return of mosquitoes. Swarms were invading me when I went out there!
On the turn of the tide things slowed down. Never saw pods of bunker on the surface this time.
Made it over to Breezy Point and tried playing with a few of those Rapalas with no luck. Did see action along the breakwater.
Last stop for the evening was Remington but had no luck.
Hit the road just after 7pm.
The action I was getting on the SRNR-8 reminded me of a day in late October last year in the same spot. Last year I was throwing a Clackin Rap CNR-8 and got into a few sea robins on the last of the incoming before setting the hook on schoolies on the outgoing. Didn't happen this time. |
