fall is approaching and the bass are starting to bulk up. Every time i've gone out lately the only thing I'm getting hit on is my shallow diving crankbaits and my spinner baits. Top water isn't working so well anymore and the only plastics they seem to be hitting are jigs. My friend below just pulled out a 4lb 5oz bass out of staffordville lake making me super pumped for a possible personal best this fall. |

I've been trying frogs and buzz baits and I haven't been getting hit at all |

I agree with cjshiz3. While you can still find good fish under docks and near other shallow structure, I think that most of the bigger fish are holding in deep weed beds or on deep structure. Yesterday, I fished Lake McDonough with mep21 (aka Mark). After not catching or even seeing many larger bass in shallow waters, we tried vertically jigging for some fish we spotted on the fish finder that were suspending on bait about 30 to 40 feet down in 40+ feet of water. While jigging a five inch Gulp! Jerk Shad that was nose hooked on a drop shot rig, Mark hooked into the only really nice bass of the day:
