Fished Candlewood today. The Skeeter has finally been christened with regurgitated Alewives and Craw Fish.
Started out on the water at 7:00am. Started north of Danbury Bay with top water. Got loads of blow ups on my Bone Chuggen Spook but couldn't hook up. Down sized to a normal spook and it was game on. Picked up six in an hour and a half. All about the size shown in the pictures. Bite died and headed to Danbury Bay. My partner never fished before and couldn't get the hang of top water so I rigged him up with a whacky rigged Senko in Green Pumpkin with Red Flake. Instantly nails a four pounder. (Not Shown). The fish inhaled the hook so I reset him up again with a #3 Circle Hook. Ten minutes later he nails a two pounder.
My Spook isn't getting anymore hits so I switch to a Whacky Rig. It was game on after that. Total bass for the day caught 15.. all around two/three pounds except for his lunker. Lost at least seven more. I didn't even count the six/eight inch'er that kept nailing my spook.
I decided to try Fluorocarbon after I swore I'd never use the stuff again. Set my drag lose and wore the fish down to the net. That worked well for about five fish. Then my rod bends in half. Drag Screaming. It's a beauty. It tries to jump several times. I manage to keep her down. She fought for a good three minutes. Every time I got her to the boat she would run again. My partner, not experienced with a net is struggling to get her in. Finally she's in. Go to lift her out. With one last thrust she jumps straight out of the net, snaps the line and swims off. Would have been my Best Personal Smallie Ever. She was big. But that's fishing.
I'm not big into the picture thing but my buddy wanted some photos to show the wife and kids. I'm big into taking people fishing that have never fished or don't have the resources to fish the big lakes. The smile on my buddies face every time he caught a fish was worth a million bucks. I have a bunch more photos but the 90deg heat today seems to have done some funky stuff to my SD Card in both my camera and phone. It was a hassle just to get these up.
While in Danbury Bay I spotted three Coy Fish at about two pounds each. Can't believe idiots actually dump non native species into our waters. These things were huge.

I get much less breaks on mono. I don't really see the difference with the line stretch that everyone claims.
I used Flouro a lot before and lost alota fish. (Vanish was my biggest problem) A few told me it's not the line but the drag so I loosened it today and did much better tiring the fish instead of trying to muscle it up. More hook spits than line breaks. It's gonna take a while for me to build confidence in the Flouro. I just hate it when I know there's a fish swimming around with my hook in it. _________________ Don't hold your farts in! Amen. It took me a while, but now I fish with P-Line Fluoroclear, in addition to PowerPro braid. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

I'm the opposite. I always fished fluoro, because I was told it was best, but now that I'm gaining experience, I'm understanding the applications of mono. I did very well on in the other day with a spinnerbait on mono. They say the stretch allows the fish to suck it right in so you have less short strikes, and its buoyancy allowed me to keep my spinnerbait high in the water without having to reel to fast. It also seemed to spring out of snags better. It does have more memory, but I've found my line conditioner works wonders. I've only been using it for a month, but I'm hooked. _________________ PB LMB: 4lb 13oz

Your right on with the Mono/Floro theory. I'm gonna try the P-Line as Phil stated. I swear I'll never use Vanish again. _________________ Don't hold your farts in! They travel up your spine to your brain and thats where shitty ideas come from. |

I like p-line, but have recently switched to YHB. It has a little less stretch but in 10lb has a lot more abrasion resistance. Just my 2 |

agree 100% vanish is garbage. I had issues tieing knots with vanish it would snap so easily and even on hook sets. Never had any other issues after I switched brands. I have used BPS flourocarbon and I currecntly use Seaguar 10lb test. I have had very good luck on that line. _________________ Never Stop Learning |

Yo-Zuri Hybrid, I think, and Bass Pro Shops.
I hate to pile on, but I have to echo what everybody else had to say about Vanish. It's the brand of fluorocarbon fishing line that made me go to only braid for a couple of years. I'm not personally invested in my line choices, but after a lot of experimentation, I'm happy enough with P-Line Fluoroclear, which is a fluorocarbon-coated co-polymer fishing line, that I'm planning to stick with it. I've boated some nice fish with it. The only failures I've had have been with fish that got a sharp tooth on it when it was under tension. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

From my experiences I have found P-Line floro to be very good. I also use Power Pro braid, my line of choice, and Fireline. I had some issues in the past with Fireline breaking on me, but that was at 8lb. test. Since I have gone up to 14lb. I have been OK.

I picked up some P-Line #10 today. I've been using the new Power Pro. Little more expensive but casts a mile. Ties good to a leader using the Uni Knot. Slides right through the eyes of my Wright McGill Rods with out a bump no matter the weight of the lure. _________________ Don't hold your farts in! I had heard reports that the new Power Pro was easy to tie and use but had issues with breaking. Hope that is not true as I want to try some.

Haven't had any break issues at all with the 20lb. I swear that the best top water line I've ever used and I top water a lot. _________________ Don't hold your farts in! They travel up your spine to your brain and thats where shitty ideas come from. |
