Friday afternoon I headed down to Bunnells Pond. Wanted to try and get into some bass and a possible trout and see if the bass feeding has started firing up yet.
First spot around 5:15pm was facing north on the Pequonnock side of Bunnells Pond. Lures I threw included helsinki shad Clackin Crank CNC-53, silver shad Jointed Shad Rap JSR-4, shad Tail Dancer TD-5, perch Pop-R, custom painted rotten mustard Shallow Shad Rap SSR-7, blue shad Jointed Deep Husky Jerk JDHJ-8, and custom painted purple nurple Flat Rap FLR-8. Didn't get any hits or followers there.
Next stop was the rocks and stuck with the JSR-4 most of the time. Also tried throwing the CNC-53 out there. Caught a 12" rainbow with the JSR-4. Had 2 other hits with the lure and lost another rainbow right as I got it to shore. Threw the Pop-R along the edge near weeds and caught a 15" 1 1/2 pound largemouth.
Went to the cove and threw the Pop-R there but no luck.
Jigged with a 1" crayfish rigged on a hot pink 1/8 ounce jighead from the bridge. Small sunnies were the only ones interested. There were 3 bass nesting there but wouldn't hit the lure.
Last stop was the tip of the island. Tried throwing the JSR-4 and Pop-R out there in different areas and around structure but didn't get any hits or followers.
Headed over to Glenwood Park around 7:45pm. |
