After fishing the Pequonnock, I went to the small pond at the funeral home. My main goal was to do some fish cleaning involving bluegills due to the big bloom in population.
Played topwater with a weightless 1" soft plastic crayfish and had many bluegills hitting it. Also landed 3 largemouths no bigger than a pound and a half. Caught a 9" yellow perch too.
Landed a total of 7 bluegills and 1 pumpkinseed. The pumpkinseed I threw back and kept all the bluegills.
What I got to witness was bluegills eating away at a largemouth's nest. The largemouth trying to guard the nest wasn't having much luck getting them to stop even though it was chasing them away. I saw a bigger bass come to help chase the bluegills away. One of the bluegills I caught and kept came from that area and found a lot of pearl white fish eggs in its stomach. Seems like the largemouths are getting out numbered by bluegills in that pond and the bass aren't doing much with eating the bluegills. |

I need to find a place with clean water in the valley area to catch me a bucket of gills. I've been dying for a nice fry lately. |

The pond I went to needs our help with getting rid of many more bluegills. |
