Ok, thanks to a suggestion on another thread -I'm headed up to twin lakes tomorrow and renting a boat. I hear there are good bass and trout here - and I love fishing for both. Any tips on techniques or baits to use for either of these? I'm from SC and used to fishing with a Texas rigged plastic worm in the shallows around structure during the spawn. I have no idea what to expect when I head up to twin.
Thanks! |

Are you talking about East Twin Lakes in Salisbury? I tried to find boat rental info on line... couldn't... do you know of a phone number or website? Thanks in advance for any info. |

I don't have an answer for you, but just wanted to make sure that you know that there's a state car top/carry-in boat launch just north of O'Hara's:

East Twin is a blast. By far my favorite CT lake. If you can look on line for a contour map, you will save yourself some leg work on the water. Another approach is watch where where other boats are fishing. Bass boats will be closer to the shoreline working the weeds and fishing the drop offs. Your trout fisherman will be on the drop off and deeper. You can spot these guys, as most will be downrigging (trolling) , following this drop off. When leaving the launch, take a right and work the weeds for bass. Either punch through the weeds with a "wacky" rigged senko, carolina or texas rig worm. Something you can make weedless!!!! Other approach is fish at the weed edge. I would use deep diving crankbaits (perch, rainbow trout or shiner colors). For trout (my target species) at Twin, I would live line shiners. Depending on wind direction, start at either the lighthouse or the cove leading to West Twin. 1/4" oz weight, approx. 2' leader and a 1/0 worm with barb removed, or circle hook (which I prefer) to prevent gut hooking. There is a 20" minum length on Brown Trout, and the majority will be under, so releasing the fish to survive is very important, to ME anyway. PM me if you need any further info. |
