So this was my first time out fishing in about the last 10 years or so. Decided to check out Walker Pond also known as Nig's Pond to see how it looked. I only had a short time and it was close to my house. Got in around 12:30pm. Was overcast and fairly chilly today. Air temps were in the 30s.

It wasn't looking too promising at first since where the entrance is was almost completely covered in a shallow layer of ice.

As I walked down the pond, about 200-300 yards there was open water near the far end of the pond.

So I tied on JSR-4 and tossed a couple casts out with that. The water where I was felt a bit too shallow. So I tied on a 2" floater. Nothing came after those, so I moved more toward the end of the pond.

Threw a couple more casts with the floater until the wind picked up directly in my face. Floater was too light, so tied on a FLR-6. After a few casts with that my line decided to get a massive tangle in it by the reel. Think I probably loaded on a little too much line. Got that sorted out and went back to my original spot. Tossed out a few more casts and the same thing happend. So I stripped off a decent amount of line.

At that point I was running short on time, so I thought I would try the Booyah Popping Pad Crasher I picked up. It casted like a dream since it was a bit heavier than the other lures. Probably took 10 casts with that. The line got stuck on a fallen tree that was in the pond on a couple casts. Took some finagling, but I did get it out each time. After the last time, I figured I should probably call it a day. Headed out around 2pm.

No bites or anything, but I definitely enjoyed getting back out. I'm sure I have a lot to learn to get catching the fish again. Warmer temps probably would have helped as well. Other than the couple issues I had with the line and reel, I was fairly happy with my Shimano Zuraca 2500F. Not a bad pole for $15 at Dick's last year. I look forward to getting out as much as I can with my limited schedule.

You might want to try Mondo Ponds, also in Milford. It's fished alot more,(don't know if thats good), and has trails an cut outs for easy shore fishing. There is a parking area off Naugutuck, or you can park at Kennedy school when it is not in session.

Thanks, fish. Will have to check into Mondo Ponds.

Haven't had luck at Walker Pond. Was my first time there as it was close to the house. I plan on going back when it warms up a little and see if I can get into something there. Will definitely give updates as I have them.

Thanks for the heads up. That was the first time I'd ever been there. Nobody else was remotely close when I went.

Last year in mid summer I fished there. I lived on seaside. I through swimjigs. Small ones. Afterall my roboworms are all rotting on the bottom of that hole. On the small bluegill colored swimjigs and the giggle of stoned boys in the bushes icaugt 2 bass under a pound withing 1 hour. The stoners were amazed bass were in fact there. I left after 2 more hours of Skimmers. Never to return.

I've never found any largemouth bass there over 8 inches. There's sizable groups of them, but I think the majority are stunted. Sometimes I go down there to fish since it's close to my house as well but it's always gross with all of the garbage, and I usually don't throw plugs since I don't want to lose them on anything. Even the sunfish are terribly stunted.

For the guy asking about Bridgeport Ave, I haven't fished the old resevoir behind the buffet but I've fished the pond next to Jonathan Law. I get some decent bluegill out of there and some small crappie, but I've never fished it for bass. Went for bullhead two or three times and struck out. It's always full of trash, junk the students throw out and empty worm containers all over the place.
