After getting some things done earlier in the afternoon on Friday, I headed out on the bike back to the private lake. Arrived around 4:30pm. Saw bluegills were closer to shore this time and some swirling going on in an area where a brook feeds in.
Started by throwing the silver shad Jointed Shallow Shad Rap JSSR-7 but never had any hits.
Next I threw the silver shad Jointed Shad Rap JSR-4 which resulted in 3 cookie cutter bass. I was getting lots of bluegills following and tapping.
Switched over to a yellow perch Husky Jerk HJ-6 and did the single jerk 5 second pause retrieve. Landed 2 more cookie cutters and a chubby 7" pumpkinseed.
Before heading over to the area that has been producing mostly, I decided to toss my lucky trout lure, the brown trout Flat Rap FLR-6 to see what the fish would think of something imitating a brown trout. Caught a cookie cutter while doing a slow retrieve. Caught another while constantly jerking it. Then decided to see if anything would hit it by playing topwater. As I let it sit on the surface for a few seconds after giving the lure a light jerk, I kept seeing a nice bass slowly following it . As it got closer to shore, I decided to slow down a bit and do some very light twitching on the surface. That got the bass to slowly come up with its mouth and grab the lure! Landed a 19" solid 4 pounder!
A pedestrian took a pic of me with my cell but Verizon's Pix Place is currently down. I'll have the pic coming this weekend.
Nothing else was interested in the FLR-6 after that and saw it was just after 6pm so I went over to the other area.
To my surprise, nothing ever hit the JSR-4, HJ-6, or purple nurple X-Rap Shad Shallow XRSH-6 in the area.
Hit the road around 6:30pm. |
