Decided to concentrate mostly on the ice out pond today and got there around 2:15pm to find all open water.
First spot I checked out didn't have any fish near by so I headed over to one of the coves.
Saw lots of bluegills and bass stacked up but they swam away and couldn't get a good look at them through the water due to the angle I was at.
Went to a small open space right near the cove that has good view. Saw many of those bluegills and bass so I threw a glass minnow Husky Jerk HJ-6 and stuck with the single jerk and 5 second pause retrieve. Had many follow very closely and landed 1 largemouth around 10". Missed out on a few largemouths.
Later I went over to another cove to find swarms of bluegills and largemouths there too. Was able to keep a close eye on them in the clear water and landed a total of 3 largemouths up to 12 1/2 inches 1 pound.
Moved back and forth to both spots and then decided to check out a few other spots. One spot produced a keeper 8" bluegill.
Moved back over to the second cove and small opening and landed another 9" largemouth.
Once winds picked up and clouds moved in, things slowed down.
Tried bouncing a 1" hot pink tube rigged with a 1/8oz jighead but never had any hits.
Around 4:30pm I decided to head down to the small pond at the funeral home to do some of that bluegill cleaning.
Stuck with the hot mustard muddler X-Rap XR-4 while doing the constant light twitching retrieve. Landed 4 yellow perch up to a keeper 9" and 1 dinky largemouth.
Hit the road at 6:10pm |
