So I have heard about good smallmouth fishing in the housatonic.

I have a 17' bass boat and was wondering where a good area to target would be? Wondering how far up the river a 17' boat would be good for? Also any other recommendations on good places to bass fish small mouth or largemouth, or even walleye. I am new to Ct and live in Norwalk, from what I've seen there are a lot of smaller bodies of water that may not be good for a 17' boat with 40Hp motor on it.

So any recommendations would be great, I plan on trying out candlewood as soon as possible.
Thanks

CT River in the Enfield area, put in at the Kings Island boat launch which is at the southern end of Enfield. It gets shallow and rocky in some areas in the late summer, but great small fishing for smallmouths.

My son has a 17' Tracker with a 50. We've hit every lake and river with a launch in CT in some wonderful weather and never had an issue. Distance is only as far as your imagination and perseverance.

Lillinhona, Candlewood, Housatonic, Zoar are all good for your boat.

Thanks I'll definitely make it up that way, especially since probably one of my most familiar waters is the CT river in vermont.

Lillinonah, Zoar, and Housatonic are the names of 3 lakes along the Housatonic River that are separated by dams.

A good place to launch on Lake Housatonic is in Indian Wells State Park in Shelton.

Not familiar with boat launches for Lake Zoar.

2 boat launches I know of for Lake Lillinonah, or "Lilli", are the Pond Brook Cove launch in Newtown and Bridgewater launch.

The lower Housy in Derby for winter stripers. I have a Skeeter SX180. Be more than happy to meet up once the season starts, I can show you Candy, Liiy and Zoar. Get ya comfortable with the lakes.

Just picked the boat up in Jan so I wanna get a couple test runs on it before I start venturing.

Thanks for all the help.

WannaFish where are you located and when do you plan to start getting out on the water? Maybe we could meet up at some point.

Check out Rogers Lake in Old Lyme. It's a great spot that rarely gets mention on here.

Well, if you're going to launch at the Kings Island Boat Launch, now would be the time to do it, while the water level is high. You could always put in at the Bissell Bridge Boat Launch and motor upriver from there.

The river gets much deeper and wider south of Hartford, much easier to navigate, north of Hartford is smaller, shallow and rocky with a very tricky channel, easy to make one wrong turn and lose a prop or lower unit, I would go with someone very familiar first before attempting it on your own.
