Monday I headed out again. Got to the small pond at the funeral home around 2:15pm.

First lure was a yellow perch Husky Jerk HJ-6. Stuck with the single jerk and 5 second pause retrieve but never had any hits or followers.

Saw many bluegills all over the place and big schools of dinks under 6" as if there was a big burst in bluegills and the largemouths weren't doing there job. So I decided to take out a hot mustard muddler X-Rap XR-4 to do some cleaning. The retrieve I stuck with was very slowly reeling as I constantly twitched the rod tip very lightly. That makes the rear teaser tail dance right in front of the panfish.

Had tons of followers, landed 3 small largemouths, 7" crappie, and 4 bluegills around 4". Kept the bluegills to feed to feral cats that live behind my apartment.

Later just after 4pm I decided to head up to the private lake.

First stop was where I was hitting the largemouths and perch last time. Played around with a silver shad Jointed Shallow Shad Rap JSSR-7, custom painted X-Rap Shad Shallow XRSH-6, purpledescent Clackin Minnow CNM-7, and bleeding original shad Jointed Shad Rap JSR-4 but didn't have any luck.

Went over to a different area of the private lake and threw the JSR-4 out there and did a very very slow retrieve. Lost a largemouth that looked about 3 or 4 pounds. Later landed a 19" 3 pound 1 ounce largemouth with the JSR-4.

Nothing else on the JSR-4 after that so I switched over to a custom painted purple nurple X-Rap Shad Shallow XRSH-6. That seemed to be the lure that got the bass going. Landed 4 more largemouths no bigger than a pound while doing a very slow retrieve. That was over by where a brook feeds in and thought that there might have been an evening bite turning on.

Once nothing else happened with the custom painted XRSH-6, I went back over to the spot that I started at to check and see if there might have been an evening bite starting. Never got into anything with the XRSH-6 or JSR-4.

Hit the road at 6:27pm

Have you tried hitting that pond right near campus that you reported about last year Stephan?

I went for about a half hour last week but it was still very cold. I've been swamped with work but I think I'm going to try again tomorrow.
