After a good deal of time trying to figure out how to get pics off my phone, I have found that Samsung's and Mac's just don't get along. Anyways....
Got out of work early today and headed to Little Bantam (or pond). Went with a guy from work who was on his second ice fishing trip (the first was last Weds.) and got out at about 3:30. Had an ice fishing first...Set up my first rig in about 7' and walked to set up the second and it was already off, landed a fat 15" pickerel, let-er-go and went back to setting up the second tip-up, and wham! off again. First time I had my first tilt go off TWICE before I set up the second. Lost that pickerel at the hole.
Set up 4 tip-ups all together, drilling 10"-12" on all holes, and waited about 30 mins. for action, and the same hole went off. I gave a quick lesson on how to hand-line a fish while my buddy landed his first ever ice fish. Decent 14" pick. Had a few more flags every 15 mins. or so, we switched off, he (now a little wound up) lost a few, I iced a nice pick, around 17", all off the same hole, when the action stopped. I had to figure one of the other holes would go off, and as we bitched about work, sure enough, one did. He was already walking towards it as he said, "hey, flag!"... "Well handle it!"
It was on one of my HT roundies, and he wasn't sure how to use it. He unfortunately learned the wrong way, and while a heavy fish took a run he grabbed the trip pin (duh!) and lost it. I told him the fish'd be back, sure enough, it was, and he was ready....
And so comes the long winded story about the 22" pickerel my buddy caught, the second hard water fish he'd caught (the first was an hour prior). At least I was psyched to get him out and get him on fish.
And as for a thousand words, someone else can count them. Next time I'll bring my digi cam.
Someday...
btw...Little Bantam has busted refreeze all on the edge, I walked around on flat ice, it got beat up last week, but I drilled every hole at 10"-12", so stay on the flat. Big snow...weee. _________________ "Fish now, answer questions later." |
