Hi,

Got out on my next door neighbors small fire pond this afternoon -> 50 feet from my back door.

Ice was a solid 5-6 inches.
Drilled 3 holes -> 1 for a chum bag and 2 for fishing.
Using small #16 hooks baited with spikes, I fished up 2 1/2 dozen Golden Shiners in about 2 hours and transfered them to my small gold fish pond next to the deck. Smile Thumbs Up

I estimate that I now have 8-9 dozen, of all sizes, in there now -> Don't think it can hold much more.
Soon as we get more reliable ice -> I'll be out on bigger waters !

sounds like fun. how big were the biggest shiners? I caught some in the summer on rod and reel in a pool of runoff I found nearby. they were bigger than the "larges" I now am buying at bait shops.

Hi AF,

The fire pond is chock full of Golden Shiners !

All sizes -> Small to largest being 6-7 inches.
Very voracious little buggers ! Smile Thumbs Up

Fun catching them on rod and reel thru the ice on 1-2 lb. test floro on very small #14-16 hooks or micro ice jigs.

When the pond is open water -> I throw in a small minnow trap and catch them by the dozen.
Pond is 50 feet from my back door -> How lucky is that ! Very Happy

Made a deal with my neighbor -> I give him fresh caught trout/salmon and he lets me take all the shiners I want.

Will not sell them as that would not be ethical to profit on shiners that aren't mine or from my own property !

Now 2:20 PM .....Going to take a short ride in a few minutes to check on ice conditions here in NW corner !
Sunny here in Winsted with Temp @ 45 F and quite windy 20-30 mph.
Not the best of conditions to do any fishing.
Will let you know what I find, and hopefully we can get out this week !

Best regards,
SeaDog1 Mr. Green
