Winchester lake is nice and frozen, a bunch of groups out today despite the low temps and 20-30mph driving wind! |

How thick was the ice?
South west CT will be getting a day of rain tomorrow.
So some of the ice that froze, after the last rain storm ruined the it the 1st time, may yet again be washed away! _________________

No, Lake Winchester and Highland Lake are two different lakes. Lake WInchester is to the west of Highland Lake along Route 263. At Lake Winchester, you can get on the ice at the boat launch ramp, which is on the south end of the lake, off of Winchester Road. And there be pike in Lake Winchester. Hi,
NOTE: .... West Hill Pond, is an old volcano caldera, and has a "LOT" of underwater springs and is usually the last pond to freeze over here in the NW. (Spring water, out of the ground, is usually 53-54 degrees F and produces a lot of weak spots in the ice )
It's one of those ponds where you "MUST" take a tremendous amount of additional caution and have all your safety gear
Check that ice thickness every few feet and definetly go with a buddy
I fish that pond all year long and know it very well ! -> Not a place to take for granted !
