Tuesday I headed down to Seaside Park and arrived at the West Beach parking lot around 1:30pm. Decided to stay at Fayerweather Island and the jetty.
As I worked my way along the jetty and onto Fayerweather Island on the Black Rock Harbor side, I played with a few lures including a chrome Rapala Skitter Pop SP-9, shad Shallow Shad Rap SSR-9, original pearl shad Flat Rap FLR-10, and flake purple ghost Max Rap MXR-15. Never had any hits, swirls, or followers.
Made my way back to the jetty and started casting out towards the open facing Seaside Park. Was casting with the Flat Rap and had a hit and saw the fish follow it. Gave it another few casts but didn't get anymore hits or followers.
I decided to see if the Shallow Shad Rap would make a difference. First cast out with the shad SSR-9 and fish on! Landed a 15" schoolie. Kept casting with the SSR-9 and caught another 14.5" schoolie.
As it got closer to sunset, I started seeing birds working 2 seperate schools. One of them I was able to get into. Stuck with the SSR-9 and moved along the jetty. Landed 5 more schoolies. Biggest was a chubby 21"er with others being in the 14 to 18" range.
Later once the tide started going out more and the sun was hitting the horizon, things calmed down. Saw birds thick in Black Rock Harbor so I went over to the old boat ramp and caught a 12" schoolie.
Hit the road around 5pm.
