City buses were running again today and the wind wasn't too bad so I headed out to some areas near me and then down to Seaside Park to take pics and see some other stuff.

Saltwater still remains flooded all the way to the police department's horse station at Seaside.


Abandoned beach that leads to Remington. Had much more sand and marshy weeds.


Intersection of Broad St and Georges St in the city's South End covered with sand, shells, and rocks. It smelled salty, sandy, and fishy. Entire South End was flooded. Storm surge flood reached Railroad Ave.

Thorme St near Blackham School and North End Little League in the city's North End. Many other trees down in the North End and surround areas.

On my way down Main Street with my bike heading towards Downtown and Seaside Park, all traffic lights from Saint Vincent's to Washington Ave were out.

On my way back home on the city's #3 bus, neighborhoods along the route including The Hollow, Brooklawn-St Vincent, and North End were in total darkness. Areas of the North End along Madison Ave north of Vincelette St had power.

On my may to Twin Brooks Park today I looked at Beardsley Park. Many of the ancient oaks and pines that have been standing at Beardsley Park for a century or more were down.

Wow. Hope you're doing OK. It's going to take a while for the shoreline to recover. We got off lightly up here in central CT. Not much traffic on the site and I've been wondering how some of you guys along the water have fared.

Wow, some crazy damage happened down along the shoreline. I was driving through Milford yesterday and they got hit pretty bad too.

The North End Business District along Main St from upper Beachmont Ave to Old Town Rd has been a madhouse since Sandy left her path. I'm very surprised I haven't seen an accident or fender bender yet up there. Restaurants and retail businesses have been packed!

Thursday when I went to Twin Brooks Park, traffic lights along Chopsey Hill Rd from Summit St to Boston Ave were out. That caused total backup on that stretch of Chopsey Hill.

Traffic lights and certain areas of the city were lit up again today.

Hi,

Made a run very early today over to Long Island via the Bridgeport/Port Jefferson ferry to my cousin Michael in Glen Cove.
Loaded my pickup with six 5gal. cans of gasoline, 12 cases of water, dry/canned foods, and other essentials.
He has his entire family staying at his house due to power outages. (2 Daughters - their husbands - kids and newly born grandchild.)
has a generator , but was running out of fuel to keep the house warm and lite.

This is family in need

While on the island I stopped 3 times to help some people stranded because their auto ran out of fuel -> use up 2 of the gas cans + also gave them some water.
Saw lots of downed trees and dammage due to "Sandy" !

Wish I could have helped more !

Got to Michael's just before noon, everyone is well -> He tried to give me money for the supplies and told him absolutely NO !
We talked -> had canned spagetti for lunch and I caught the 3:00 PM ferry back.

Just watched the video my brother sent me from his girlfriends house in Mystic Island NJ. It was on the backwaters. Totally destroyed. There is a dock and boat parked in what's left of the livingroom. Big orange X and FEMA notice posted outside that the house is not safe for entry. Other houses on the street are in the same shape. The one structure that survived was an outdoor shed. Didn't even move. Go figure. Really depressing, but everyone was safe.

Hi,

FYI:
The T/S (Training Ship) Empire State from NY Maritime and my academy's ship T/S Kennedy from Mass Maritime, where activated by the Federal Gov. as of 12/1/2012 to be sent to stratigic points in NJ providing floating hotel capabilities with berths-showers-food for over 1200 first responders.

Both academies where given 48 hours to get vessels maned and provisioned and underway -> and they both did it in less then 36 hours.
That is no small task in any way !

I'm very proud of all my fellow mariners that answered the call.
