Went to the wood on Friday morning with Steve Slay, and Todd. We Hit the water at 5:20 am started throwing topwater, we each picked up a few shorts and 1 keeper a piece. Around 7:30 the wind picked up a bit and we moved to the weedlines in 2-8' of water. Steve started throwing a bill lewis rattle trap into the weeds and ripping it out. He managed to get 3 fish on 3 casts. Naturally I started throwing the same. We managed a collective 14 keepers. my Biggest was a 4.12 lmb, Steve followed with a 4.1 Smb. We were off the water by 12:30. Water temp was 74-78. All fish were caught in 2-8' of water.

| It sounds like you guys did OK; the last time I hit candlewood was last year and the water was real grungy and didn't have much luck. I have heard its a great lake to fish but you can't prove it by me I've never had very good luck there. Maybe I just don't know where to go. cmorjoe |

nice work.
Just curious, when you say keepers, do you actually take them home and eat them or are you just using the term keepers as a reference to the size of the fish?

Bass Addict, I'm sure they mean "keepers" as in tournament minimum size which would be 12" or 15" in length depending on tournament rules. I doubt they would take that many bass home even if they were eaten.

By keepers I mean 12" legal length for our tourney.I myself would'nt keep fish to eat. Maybe as a trophy. But I cant catch big fish anyways, so that does'nt matter

gotcha. I have had freshwater bass once and I never want to have it again. I do know people that like it so I was curious that if you did cook it - how you prepared it. Cooking is my second hobby.

Bass Addict, I will cook bass once every couple of years at the lake I have a summer home on in NH. I usually catch 2-3 1.5-2 lb largemouth or smallmouth, filet them, soak the filets in milk for a couple of hours, then coat them in flour and/or bread crumbs, then pan fry in vegtable oil. If the fish is fresh, it's very tasty. I will season with salt, pepper and maybe very light lemon.
