Im a bit disappointed with this trip. We started off at 530 and on my dads first cast he caught a brown trout. They recently stocked the lake and the trout were literally jumping 3 feet out of the water. I casted and trolled different spoons and rooster tails and got nothing beside a little 1lb smallmouth. So i moved to the far left cove by the beach. Was it about 20fow or i think because my depth finder malfunctioned and didnt work the whole night. I bounced my minnow of the bottom and got a nice hit. Stayed down and wouldnt budge. After about 2ish minutes of this fight i bring up a 24'' largemouth. Id say 3-4lbs but boy was he big!!! The whole time this fished stayed down and kept tearing out line. I was saying to myself that its a real nice 24ish inch walleye but nope just a largemouth which was a little strange. Continued to bottom bounce a minnow and got nothing else. Paddled all the way down on the left side and trolled a minnow back up to the launch and got nothing. Dropshotted somemore and got nothing. And used a lighted bobber with a minnow and nothing. The whole night i was telling myself to troll around the shore with some Shad raps and jsr's like michael said. Im sure that would get me something, maybe even some trout. But i didnt tie one rapala on. Overall, Me: 1lmb and 1smb My dad: 1 brown trout and 1smb. Not too sure if ill spend another night at squantz this fall. Ill need someone to report something good and then ill head back but for now, i think im just going to stick to the mornings.

Similar case at Great Hollow today. They stocked it Monday and saw many fish jumping out of the water but would hardly hit anything.

Surprised to hear no walleye grabbed the shiner on the bottom.

Surprised you didn't do any trolling with a JSR!

Since walleye are in their aggressive mode because of the water temperature dropping i shouldve used a rapala. I regret my decision on using minnows cause the night was VERY calm and wouldve been great for trolling.

JSR has always been the producer at Squantz for me in the cooler months. That tight wiggle with the rattle and distressed minnow vibrating signal has gotten walleye, smallmouths, yellows, and trout to hit along drop offs near the cove and beach. SR, JSR, TD, and SRRS have been trusty to me in some of the deeper coves and inlets farther up.
