Decided to stay local on the Pequonnock River today. Started off at the old Trumbull Rd bridge around 3pm to see if there were any holdovers and other fish in there.

Tried throwing a few smaller Rapalas but never saw a follower or flash.

Moved down to a deeper area where there used to be a dam. Nothing there.

Next stop was the Route 8 bridge. Had small sunnies and tiny largemouths follow the glass minnow HJ-6.

Moved over to the deep area by the ballfields where I found a holdover to be hanging out. First lure was the HJ-6. Tried a steady retrieve, constant jerking, and jerk and pause. It followed it a number of times but turned back without hitting or swiping it. Next lure was a brown trout Flat Rap FLR-6. The holdover followed it a number of times and took 2 swipes at it and tried to grab it once. Decided to try going deeper so I threw a bleeding pearl Jointed Shad Rap JSR-4. Had 1 hit by the fish and a few follows.

Then came the edge of a storm. More reds and yellows on the radar out by Black Rock and Fairfield. Heavy and steady rains with a few rumbles of thunder and 2 flashes of lightning before it was over within 20 minutes.

Once the storm was over 1 other lure I tried throwing was a rainbow trout Ultra Light Minnow ULM-4. Had 1 follow but that was it.

Once I saw what time it was I started heading down to the bend where I lost that holdover last time. 3 lures I played with there were the JSR-4, HJ-6, and FLR-6. Never saw any flashes or followers.

Saw it was right near 6pm so I decided to give it a break at Duchess to warm up and dry off. Then it was time for the small stripers at Glenwood.

While I was into the small stripers with the HJ-6, I missed out on 3 bigger stripers that came shooting up from the bottom while the lure was suspended. Lost 1. All looked to be anywhere from 15 to 20". Caught a total of around 10 stripers from 8 to 12".

Hit the road around 7:15pm.
