Went fishing Wednesday and Thursday at around the same time-from 6:00pm-7:45pm both days. I landed 7 bluefish and 1 striper, and it should have been much more, as I had over 10 misses. Most misses coming on Wednesday. After catching the first bluefish, my lucky/current favorite lure, I had one of the trebles get badly stuck in its mouth and when the lure came off it left the treble behind. I had to revert to a backup of the same lure but I must of left it at the bottom of my surf bag because its old and real rusty and not too sharp-as evident by so many misses, I replaced it before my Thursday trip and maybe it was just me or the fishes fault, as there was a school of schoolies that moved in, or maybe you have days like that, anyway I switched it right away.
I landed a nice 22"striper on wednesday, beautiful fish!
All fish were landed on that same chrome popper. Also as I was leaving and it was dark I decided to throw a black hogy-second cast, bam, bam and I reel in my lure with 8 out of 9" gone, chopped off right past the hook, threw on another hogy with two hooks, one cast , bam, bam same thing, Gotta be blues, right? Or porgy's? couldn't be stripers? I went out with only a couple back up lures today as I went strait from work and I left my surf bag at home after forgetting to bring it back to the car after cleaning my hooks last night.
I've only been using basically that one lure anyway, and I didn't think I had time to run home before fishing. It all worked out except for the eels. I haven't fished them much yet because blues have been around and I was always told don't use soft plastics if blues are around. I only had 2 hogy's with me, and I had no swimmers or other lures other than poppers, and it was dark, and I don't know if poppers work so good after dark, so I called it a day.
Good week of fishing over three days(9/24, 9/26, 9/27), a couple hours each day, landing over 10 good bluefish and 1 nice striper!

Chris - I took that photo of your. Sorry it didn't come out better, I was honestly worried about dropping your expensive looking phone into Long Island Sound. Glad you picked up some fish. Don't think porgies would be messing with your hogy, my guess is blues.

Thanks, yeah I would def say blues but that bam, bam hit felt different from all the blues I've caught this summer. Anyway I fish Fairfield beaches including the reef, and southport, westport, and stratford beaches, most times I do lots of wading and walking

Don't be silly, the pic is great, I'm glad you were there to take the pic and very glad u didn't drop my phone in the sound. I just started bringing my phone out with me so I can snap pics of some of my fish before I release them. I realized that of the last 100 of so blues and stripers I've caught this summer I only have like 3 pics and I enjoy looking back through the pics. Good seeing you out there.
