Buddy Harvey and I took his canoe out onto Great Hollow Saturday after seeing the stocking report. Got into the water around 3pm and fished til 6:40pm.
First we went over to where we were seeing lots of breaks. Saw nice sized trout jumping out of the water. Harvey and I each tried throwing a silver shad Jointed Shad Rap JSR-4 but had no hits.
Next Harvey switched over to a brown trout Flat Rap FLR-6 while I tried throwing a glass minnow Husky Jerk HJ-6. I had a few swipes while Harvey had a number of smaller hits and caught a nice 14 1/2" brown.
I switched over to a brown trout Original Floater F-7 and lost a fish and had a few hits.
Later once the bite stopped, we headed down along tree cover. I stuck with the HJ-6 while Harvey stuck with the JSR-4. Harvey wasn't into anything with the JSR-4 while I caught 1 pumpkinseed and 2 dinky largemouths. Also misssed out on a largemouth that looked to be around 2 pounds. All fish hit the HJ-6 on the pause.
Headed over into Fisherman's Cove where Harvey switched over to a silver X-Rap Shad Shallow XRSH-6. Both of us had no luck.
Worked our way over to the bend and then up to our usual crappie area. Nothing except for bluegills pecking at the HJ-6 at the bend. Caught a 12" crappie and 1 bluegill at the usual crappie spot with the HJ-6 and lost a smaller crappie. Harvey played topwater with a silver Original Floater F-5 and had a number of taps and lost a crappie.
Last stop while we still had some time was back to where we were seeing the trout earlier. Both of us threw the brown trout Flat Rap FLR-6 out there. Both of us had a number of hits and Harvey landed a nice 15 3/4" 1.6 pound brown.
Once it was 6:40pm we had to head back to shore before they closed the gates. |

I was originally thinking around 2 pounds until I did a calculation online. Length of 15.75" x girth of 9". |
