Went to Bunnells Pond Thursday and arrived at the island around 2:15pm. Saw lots of scattered dead weeds floating around. No largemouths visible through the clear water.
Lures I played around with in the weeds were a weedless frog, chartreuse ghost X-Rap Popper XRP-7, and glass minnow Husky Jerk HJ-8. Lures I tried throwing into the deeper open areas were bleeding original shad Jointed Shad Rap JSR-4, olive green crawdad Clackin Crank CNC-53, original pearl shad Flat Rap FLR-8, hot steel Shallow Shad Rap SSR-7, fire shad Skitter Walk SW-8, custom made firetiger Woodchopper lure, and perch Jointed Shad Rap JSR-4. Had no luck with all lures so I headed over to the spot where I hit the 4.8 pound largemouth.
Lures I concentrated with mostly were the bleeding original shad JSR-4, original pearl shad FLR-8, olive green crawdad CNC-53, hot steel SSR-7, and chartreuse ghost XRP-7 but nothing happened for me.
No luck at the rocks either.
While I was still at the rocks, a young boy came to me asking for help with fishing. His grandfather was there with him and said the boy was just starting to get interested in fishing. The boy had a 5' 6" Ugly Stick combo with the lure kit. Showed him how to cast. Told him about different types of fish at Bunnells Pond. Showed him a way to use a maribu from the rocks. Plenty more. Also told the grandfather and the boy about the site and the DEEP fishing classes.
After close to an hour of all the teaching and guiding, I headed up to the Pequonnock at Beardsley Park. |
