Met up with sbehuniak09 (Steffon) and rmflint (Ryan) at the DD on campus at about 6:00 am and was on the lake shortly after. We where greeted bye cloudy overcast skies and a light 2-3 mhp broken breeze from the N / NE Steffon hit the water fast in his yak and had first fish about the time I was rolling off the trailer.
Air temp was in mid 60s water temp was 64-67 deg. depending on area I took reading from .
I started off with a buzz bait hopeing for topwater bite Ryan with a swimbait but neather one of us managed a bite as we worked our way around the west shore and bays of the north end of the lake.Nothing was happening and boats started to get thick we decided to head south through the tunnel to south end of the lake.
This turned out to be a pretty good idea because everyone else seemed focused on the north end leaveing it all for us, just past the exit of the tunnels I managed my first fish on a wacky senco.
Whipeing the skunk off me from Highland lake the few days earlyer (thank god) .We work our way around the bank of the south end takeing hits and missing fish for a while manageing 1 here and there
About then I got a call from Jjay (Jason) he was just off 84 onto rt 195 heading to the ramp we should see him shortly very and we kept on fishin.
We drifted around working different baits the bite was very slow I took a bottom hit from something that bit me of allmost instantly toothy what ever it was By now 1.5 hours had pasted and no Jason so we dropped him a call to check if there was a problem he was just leaveing the ramp seems he got caught up in a traffic jam caused bye a event at Uconn and the construction in area that limited travel magor bummer (what a waste of fishing time)
Steffon had caught up with us pulled one off the bank right near us
About then he had mentioned his time was up and it was time to head back to school to finish up some work for next day . He pushed it for a little while longer then waved goodbye and headed up the lake , shortly after that we got a call from Peco ( Phil) askin about our luck a look up the lake revealed him comeing in our direction rideing the other woman .The weather broke into beautiful blue skys with big puffy clouds fishing continued.
the rest of the day was full of freinds fun and fish till around 3:30 or so when a deep rummble came rolling in from the south that started us watching the skies we pushed our luck for a bit longer till we new for sure we couldnt duck the storm Phil passed us mentioning he was heading for the ramp we decided it was time for us as well ,so I headed over to Jason and prepared to take his boat in tow. Ryan remeined us theres allway time for 1 more fish.
so we load up Jason and his gear took his boat in tow and ran for the launch got there just in time to duck the heavy rain , the storm ended quickly But sadly the day was over
Peco had a great idea so we all rallyed up at a local place Yukon Jacks I beleave was the name the food smelled great the conversation was even better thanks for another great day of fishing guys ......Ryan good to me ya bud your allways welcome to fill the front seat, I would also mention if anyone finds themselves heading near Storrs and needing good company drop him a pm. _________________ I Love to fish......Not a big fan of sitting in the boat alone ....the Conversation and the company make it perfect

Bob, thank you so much for letting me man your front seat. You truly are a gentleman and it was a pleasure meeting you. I can't wait to fish again one day it was lots of fun and just the break I needed from school. Also Phil thank you so much for the food I really appreciate it. And Jason it was a pleasure meeting you. It's just nice to know so many kind guys enjoy the same addiction as me. Nothing is better than being able to share stories with people with common interest because with fishing there just aren't enough. _________________ You know it was a good day when your thumb is all scratched up. |

I got on the water at the boat launch ramp in The Other Woman later than everyone else, at 12:45 pm:
When I arrived at the ramp, I met sbehuniak09 (aka Stephan aka Aquaman) for the first time. Hey, Stephan! He was coming off of the water after "the incident". I took pity on him and didn't take a photo. It can wait until he's holding a fish, instead of when he IS the fish! Stephan told me that Bob, Ryan and Jason were all on the south part of the lake, so I headed through the culvert underneath Bassetts Bridge Road:
I trolled a Yellow Perch Rapala Jointed Shad Rap JSR05 down the west shore in about eight feet of water while I looked for them. I was on the water for only 15 minutes when the Yellow Perch Rapala was hit by a cannibalistic yellow perch:
And only 20 minutes later, I finally pedaled past Bob and Ryan in The Way More Better:
They told me that there are northern pike in the lake, so I headed into a small, shallow cove on the east side and threw a white slow sinking five inch Sebile Magic Swimmer around it. In the back of the cove, it was hit by a two pound bass that was able to shake itself free when it was halfway to the boat. I hate treble hooks! However, as I headed back out of the cove, the Magic Swimmer got a chubby 12 inch largemouth bass:
Whoo hoo! I headed back into the main body of the lake and continued south along the east shore. When I got to the back of a shallow cove, I saw that there was a shallow pond beyond it:
I portaged over and worked my way around the cove. I pulled a Perch Rapala Shallow Shad Rap SSR07 around behind me, since the entire cove was less than four feet deep. Surprisingly, the first fish that I caught in the cove was a sunny that hit the Magic Swimmer:
Yeap, it definitely bit off more than it could chew. Shortly after, I got a hit on the Perch SSR07 that was floating behind me:
After I unhooked the cannibalistic yellow perch, I started throwing the Magic Swimmer, again. When I got to the back of the cove, it was hit by a small northern pike :
Despite my excitement, it was just a little chain pickerel. The yellow perch couldn't stop themselves from hitting the Perch JSR07:
And the chain pickerel couldn't resist the Magic Swimmer:
Yeap, I got the whole school of yellow perch :
I finally ran into Jason in his Future Beach Trophy 126 DLX as I headed out of the shallow cove. I headed back into the main body of the lake intending to head further south, but it began to sprinkle as dark clouds rolled in from the south, so I decided to slowly work my way back toward the ramp. But as I started heading in, the rumble of distant thunder made me pick up my pace. And when I heard a loud boom of thunder seemingly overhead, I found myself behind a couple of kayakers who were also heading back to the culvert at full speed:
I got off of the water at the ramp at 4:30 pm. Although I only had a short time to fish, it was enough to make me want to head back, again, soon. There's still a lot of lake to check out. And if there really is a northern pike in there, I want to find it. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Most Rapalas from sizes 4 to 7 in the original Perch color have gotten me lots of yellows too Phil. SSR-7, F-7, J-7, FLR-6, and JSR-4 have been the big producers. |

Oh yeah its great! I'm really enjoying it when I've been able to get out. Enough room and plenty comfortable. I just wish I had more time to get out in it! _________________ The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. ~A.K. Best |
