With the boat sold I grabbed the hip waders and hit the Steel Bridge Launch at 6:00am. Now I haven't had those things on in at least ten years. Not a leak in them.

Anyways;

Started with my favorite Bone White Super Spook right off the launch. Landed two 16"ers in about 30 casts. Gonna be a good morning. Release fish #2 move over to the left side of the launch in the bay. Cast/ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ/SNAP....................silence..........splash! Awh Shite! My 30lb Power Pro "SNAPPED" and sent my spook sailing!

Walk back to the truck and attach a 5 1/2" GUN FISH! About 20 casts a Pike nails it in the cove. About a 45 second fight and she spits the hook! Excited cast back to that area! Cast/ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ /SNAP....................silence..........splash! Awh Shite! Gun Fish Gone! Back to the truck and attach a smaller Gun Fish!

Fished about an hour with a couple of small blow ups! I spot my Spook with in casting distance! Shocked Shocked About 20 casts later I snag it! Surprised Laughing Surprised Re attache it, three cast later (Need I really say it again?) Called it quits. Stopped at Pond Brook! Large fish jumping everywhere. Not a bite!

Called it a day!

Overall two 16"ers from Lilly on shore and a good fight from a Pike isn't bad. But as Lilly always does! As soon as the fog lifted and some light shined through The Bite Stopped Immediately!

Arrow Oh I forgot! No pictures! To hard to hold the camera phone, rod and fish while wadding in thigh deep water.

Are you sure your tying a good knot for braid? Its hard to believe you broke 30lb braid 3 times in one trip!! Sounds to me more like you are using a knot not designed for braid. I use the Palomar (Spelling) and throw 3 ounce Superstrike in the saltwater with Power Pro and havent had 1 snap yet in 2 years with the same line! I just today ordered a new 1500yard spool online as I do believe Im starting to push it with that line. Actually I replaced 2 rels worth this year but havent been using those 2 reels much so 1500 was more then I needed but at least I have it around when needed.

I work five days on three days off! I'll start having Sats off next week and for the following three weeks. Getten together would be great! I'll be in touch.

The tourney I fished Sunday as a non boater and all the tourneys this year I fished with the same partner. He uses a Black/Silver Spook Jr and I've stayed with the Bone Super Spook. I have definitely hooked more top water than he has! Frustrates the heck outa him sometimes.

Using the same knot (s). Can't fighure out the breaks. Never happened to me before. Using the same line all year. At least 25 trips. I even inspected the eyes for wear with a magnifying glass. Can't figure it out. I'm going to have to inspect the knots more often between casts. I know I'm leaving a long enough tang!

i not sure on this one! and what has happened to me! interested in some input!

i used 2 rods for my top water (1 with braid - power pro) (1 with maxima 8lb test)
now i changed to 3 rods for top water! out of all the fishing i do I AM guilty of being a top water nut! - even when i know i should not be throwing top water I DO! -- LOL i just cant help myself!!!

on the rod with power pro I had been getting far more tangles and knots when throwing spooks - large poppers - jitterbugs and frogs AND i had noticed small frays happening near where i tie on - perhaps the bigger hooks are nicking the braid - anyway i have had 3 break-offs on the braid this year!

on the rod that has mono NO Problems at all! - i must admit that i was a strickly mono guy for years and just in the past couple of years have used braid and I DO think in some applications it is better than mono!

i have gone back all mono for top water fishing! except for frogging in heavy cover and throwing big stuff for pike I NOW I HAVE a rod that i pull out just for those times only!

i find that the mono does not tangle and get knots down the line as much! BUT i do have to change the mono on the spool more because of twists!

IDEAS PLEASE????

After a lot of thought, when I snagged my Spook back I don't think there was any braid on the split ring! Now I'm wondering if the knot "is" the problem. I know in the beginning of the year I was using a modified cinch not and lost a few lures with fish on. Switched to the polamar and it stopped until today.

Anyways after I left Lilly today I went to Newtown Bait and Tackle and bought three more Super Spook One Knockers in Bone.

It's an addiction now. I've hooked bass in every season using a spook. Fished it last February on Lilly and caught one in the Shepaug Bay! The guy I was fishing with couldn't believe it. LOL

The entire spook line is grat, salt or fresh, especially this time of year. This years Chug-n-Spook has replaced the Gag Popper as my favorite top water for light tackle stripers.

I've been hitting the Housy/Naugy the past few weeks. The winter hold over fish should be in soon. As soon as I acquire another boat I'll be down at Sikorsky.

Ran into a guy pulling his boat out yesterday. He was behind Sikorski and reported large brown w/orange bellies jumping everywhere! Said they weren't carp!

You can't use a regular knot this is the one I like to tie and have never had it fail on me.

Thats the one I've been using! Thats why I'm confused. When I retrieved the Spook Iost I'm almost positive there was no braid on the ring which leads me to believe the knot is slipping some how. I know I'm leaving plenty of tang and pulling it tight.

Thats the palomar knot and thats what I use on braid for salt water and throw spooks often myself. I do get more wind knots with the braid but IMO you gey way better action using braid with top water then with mono. I do typicaly use a mono leader though do maybe thats the difference.

That's a Palomar Knot. I've never had one slip on me with braided line, although it'll slip if you use NanoFil line. If your knots are slipping, try a NanoFil Knot:

It's really just a Palomar Knot, except that you tie a Surgeon's Knot with the loop, instead of an Overhand Knot.
