Another buddy and I hit the Reef Saturday evening. We started off where I caught most of the fish Friday around 5pm while low tide for Bridgeport was scheduled for 5:28pm.

As I stuck with the original pearl shad Flat Rap FLR-10, my buddy started of with a holographic silver black 4" Crystal Minnow. First cast out and I catch a chubby 16 1/2" fluke which hit right in front of me. Buddy was hitting the bottom with the Yo Zuri. Both of us stuck with the slow-medium retrieve.

Once nothing else happened, we worked out way a bit farther out but never got into anything.

As the tide got higher and it was getting closer to sunset, we slowly worked our way in. As we worked our way in, I hit 2 small sea robins and a 3 pound taylor. A spot where I caught one of the small sea robins produced a 16 1/2" fluke for my buddy. He caught it on a 4 1/2" holographic olive green minnow plug something like a Matzuo or Tsunami.

At another spot buddy had 2 fluke follow and lost a fluke on the olive green plug. I also had a swirl in front of me when I took the FLR-10 out of the water.

After sunset we ran into Fishingkid half way in to shore. He was throwing a Deadly Dick and wasn't into much.

Fishingkid, buddy, and I started working the Norwalk side. It was mostly flat all thanks to a calmer 5mph north wind. Fishingkid landed a taylor. Buddy caught a sea robin. I had a fluke hit and a few of those very quick "tap tap" porgy hits.

Fishingkid switched over to a smaller blue and white Atoms and got a few explosions and landed a taylor. I decided to switch over to the croaker Saltwater Skitter Pop SSP-9. Within 10 casts I got 3 explosions. Buddy tried throwing a chrome black Creek Chub but didn't get anything.

Buddy and I called it a night around 7:20pm.

I'm seeing a change of pattern as for lure and color selection. Topwaters aren't as active as they were unless you have calmer water or a topwater bite going. Shallow diving minnow plugs and shad crankbaits are producing. Slow-steady retrieve about a foot off the bottom is catching the fluke and blues. Color selection right now is a bit picky. Holographic foils and flashes aren't working like they were about a month or 2 ago, unless you have the perfect color. Olive Green, Ghost White, Purples, and certain Blues are the holographics. Something with a bright orange, yellow, or red belly is getting them to hit too. Shiny silver plated colors aren't as active as they were. The type of paints you want to throw are flat pearls and flaky pearls. One other retrieve to keep in mind is for a suspending or slow sinking minnow plug. Give it a hard jerk up, pause for a half a second to a second and a half, give it another jerk and pause, give it 2 or 3 straight jerks, pause, and then repeat. They hit the rear hook on the pause.

Sounds like it's still sort of slow over there, huh Mike?

That's right Chris. Bluefish action has slowed down compared to a month ago when that topwater taylor bite was on. Fluke are starting to pick up on action. Waiting for the bunker to head down the rivers so I can start seeing the good blitzes. Water temps are still above 70.
