I went up to lake winchester today for the first time. I started going along the rip rap and caught something small, colored like a smallmouth but shaped like a sunfish? Then I headed over tro the cove and got a decent sized yellow perch. Once in the cove I lost one LMB and boated a 14 incher. I caught my personal best northern pike. It was a whopping six inches MAYBE six and a half. It was my first northern pike and I am hoping it can only go UP from here. I got him on a 1/2 ounce rooster tail, also the bass on that lure. Got one more perch as I was headed out. My legs get sore real quick sitting crosslegged in my Nucanoe so my outings are not much more than 2 or 3 hours. I look forward to going there again. I met Peco and NWDarkcloud (aka Bob) on my way out and wished them good luck. All in all not a bad day. |

Hey Walter! Did it look like this:
That's a rock bass (aka a f#@%ing rock bass).

I have to admit that Bob's boat, the Way More Better, is a more comfortable fishing platform than any of my kayaks. I think that you'd like it. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

If not a Rock Bass, my guess is a Crappie (Calico Bass). _________________ Steve |

Okay, how 'bout this:
It's a black crappie (aka calico bass or papermouth bass). _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

It could have been a green sunfish. I never saw those until I started fishing up here at UConn they have bigger mouths like a crappy, but colors similar to a sunfish/rockbass/smally. I was fishing with my friend Stephan who caught it and we assumed it was like a rockbass/bluegill hybrid until we got home and researched it. He caught two in two different ponds so it is to say they are common up around here. _________________ You know it was a good day when your thumb is all scratched up. |

Here's a green sunfish that I caught at Middle Bolton Lake:
I couldn't believe that a sunny could get a Horny Toad into its mouth. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |
