I've been lurking on the boards for a while and now that my son and I have started successfully fishing from our kayak in Fairfield, I thought I'd post my first report.
We fished Penfield Reef last Saturday on the outgoing tide and navigated ourselves into a bluefish blitz using the kayak. (My son is 7 and sits in the tankwell trolling/casting while I paddle and keep a rod in the rod holder.) We lost count of the 2-3 lb bluefish we caught including having us both hook up simultaneously a bunch of times. We were using Rapala's with barbless double hooks on lightweight saltwater spinning rods.
Too rough to fish the reef on Monday so we tried up and down the harbor in Southport and only hooked a couple snappers. |
