Looking into getting an aluminum boat. I borrow one at a local private lake but would like something a little more sturdy (able to stand comfortably).

What size boat would comfortably fit 2 adults? What determines the boats stability? The boat I am using now is very tough to stand in. Any move by the other person and you'll lose your balance if youre not careful.

I'd like something that sits up in the water a bit. I feel like I am squatting very low to sit on the bench seat. I would make a higher seat but I feel it would be unstable.

I would also like to be able to take it in saltwater. I like john boats but I dont think they are good for saltwater. I would only be going out in the sound, on the inside of the breakwalls. Maybe New Haven and Milford Harbor.

So an aluminum boat with room for 2 adults to comfortably stand and fish. For now I would just use a 45 thrust trolling motor but would eventually like to put a
10- 25hp outboard on it.

Any advice appreciated.

mike you where in mine ..its a sylvan 15 footer semi-v hull with the modes I did it will handle up to a 35hp ..the stability you could judge for yourself couldnt say I would like to sand on the foredeck in a rolling bay but on flat water you saw for yourself......

how wide is yours Bob? I want something stable and a wider boat seems like it would be better. Also thinking 14' or 16' for length. Been looking at craiglist waiting for something to come up.

I have a 12 ft aluminum boat with a 35 lb thrust motor and that moves it well. I stand and fish in it no problem. Only issue i could see is the size outboard, you'd have to make sure you checked the rating on the boat. I found mine on craigslist and got it for a real good price. Keep your eye open and you're sure to find one.
