How big do you think this fish is?
BTW
I am 5'11" and about 225lbs.
This fish looked BIG in the water/boat. I was thinking it might have been my best of the season. I guessed it was 4lbs but I am notoriously bad a guessing. Especially fish I catch ; ) Usually the formula is take my guess and subtract 1.5 lbs....
Just ordered a digi scale so I will finally be able to see how far from 5lbs I really am.
I usually carry a tailors ribbon tape measure thing so if I catch a big one I can at least measure it, didnt have it with me here though.
Thanks!

I just ordered a new scale too! The rapala tourney model. Scored on ebay for less than $40 clams.
Pictures are so hard to read, Even holding them. Still just a guessing game. I'm gonna say 3.5 to 4 pound range..... And I'm most likely wrong! So don't shoot me. _________________ PB LMB 9.3LBS Winchester Lake

I'll take that!
I was guessing 4lbs. Even though I felt like it was probably 3 and change.
Its nice to have someone with you for pics. Its hard to do the one handed hold and shoot. Not to mention the fish always looks smaller. I have even considered a tripod with my camera mounted and a time or remote! |

There's no substitute for a digital scale and a measuring device. I found that I wasn't accurately measuring fish length before I got a Hawg Trough. A tape measure is no substitute for a device that lets you put the fish's mouth against a stop before you pinch the tail.
My rule of thumb for an average girth Connecticut largemouth bass is:
14 inches = 1 pound
16 inches = 2 pounds
18 inches = 3 pounds
20 inches = 4 pounds
22 inches = 5 pounds
24 inches = 6 pounds
Because longer fish have a greater variation in girth, this gets less accurate as the fish get longer.
My Personal Best largemouth bass is the fish in my avatar and was caught in Keeney Cove. She was only 21 inches long, so I'd have expected her to weigh about 4-1/2 pounds, but she weighed 6 pounds, 6 ounces. She was a real fatty. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Hi Phil,
I think we should change and use Gabriel Inglesia's 6 size level:
Big
Healthy
Husky
Fluffy
Dam !
Oh Hell NO

Size 7, if there ever is one, will be probably be called -> "The world is going to End"

I say that because this bass about the same size was just over 3 pounds
Now that I compare the two I'd have to say it may even be high 2's but picture ate so deceiving I had the same problem before I got my scale. Bass just look so big in person then the picture ruins it. _________________ You know it was a good day when your thumb is all scratched up. |

pictures are dececieving. The 1st pic of phil that bass looks ALOT bigger then 6.6lbs. Heck if i saw that pic and had to guess id say over 8lbs.
As for your fish..............im guessing three lbs and not much over that. I have a buddy that thinks 2's are 5's. |

The crazy thing about that first pic of Phil is that even though the fish looks big in the picture it looked even bigger in person. Glad I was there to see that fatty!! |

Recently I have seen a few 4lb bass get weighed. I dont think the bass in my pic is 4lbs anymore. It might be 3 probably more like 2.5...
I have caught fish in the past I would have said were 5 all day and they came in at 3.5.
I dont think many people realize how big a 5lb bass really is. Even a 3lb bass is a nice fish. I got a few right under 4 in the last couple weeks and they were big fish!
I had to recalibrate my mental scale. Actually bough a digital scale as well so I can be sure when I get that 5!!
That is a PIG phil. I can only imagine what that was like. |
